Kaleidoscope quilt in the making ??

I've just finished another computer-aided "cell generation" (below):

from the image (below) I had taken previously during work on Project:Cell (click to link)

For a very quick automated image-manipulation in non-Photoshop software, I'm very impressed especially as it has captured what I originally saw within the original image!!

Wedding dress sketch ...

From another of my sketchbooks, here's a recent wedding dress that was made. Designed to be in black & champage, it was finished in time for its "Halloween wedding". If you want to read more about it (with its basic stitchery information), then click here.

DEJA VU ...

Having thoughts of my life, I've just come across one of my work books with the above (dated October 1993) - some quick ink sketches for containers that were made for a textile game entitled 'Deja Vu'. At some point I will upload this item in more detail.

Self portrait progression ...

The self portrait visuals are progressing VERY well - the latest one (above) & still on the computer designing them!

The first image (left) from earlier in the week has been exceedingly inspirational - both in progressing the design forward & formulating how to structurally make it.

A design is resurrected ! ...

Some experimental samples & sketches (below right) reminded me of a previously sketched 'Honesty' design (below left) that I wanted to work up.

Cell sketches No. 4 - Water cells

Colour pencil sketches (on blue paper) of some cells found in ocean waters (copied from a book). The colours are those stains used in the original microscope photography to enable the cells to be seen more clearly. In drawing these, I've been trying to capture the transluscency as well as pattern formations.

Both sketches have resulted in ideas for further development.

Cell sketches No. 3 - Shapes

Following the cell route, I'm looking at structures & formations - this is leading rapidly into geometric shapes based around curves etc. Working in Illustrator, some initial design 'sketches' have resulted in these shapes which can easily transform into 3D forms.

Cell sketches No. 2 - Basic cells

To get me back into the mood of 'sketching' (having spent some time on the computer) & working with paper again, I've started off with a few initial sketches on cells ... already it's providing me with some fresh ideas to work with (have a look here to see some of them as they progress).

On-line or paper printing ? ...

I've recently got the printer inks in place so today can print a series of 47 'computer' sketches. Although great for on-line viewing, I miss not having actual paper ones to hand - especially if I want to quickly review, add or enhance a design. Now partially back in the studio & ready to begin work on some designs, I thought I should first get them onto a display area to look at. Already as they are printing, textures are more visually apparent - something not seen on-line quite as easily. The design above in particular: the pale blue area to the right (overlayed in black) - viewing on-line portrays flat colour but when printed, shows a 3D texture to be more apparent.

Button sketch ideas No.2

Some ideas of button stitching patterns are beginning to take form - not sure where this may lead but an interesting series of sketches!

I also keep thinking about a button mosaic surface covered in glass - a table top perhaps ??? Have probably sufficient buttons to make a huge dining table !!!!!

Honesty ...

A selection of 'Honesty' designs from several years ago which I'd like to use & update later.
